Kano State Censorship Board yesterday arrested a prominent Hausa lyricist and playback singer, Malam Bashir Dandago, as well as one Kabir Maulana.
According to sources, they were arrested in connection with releasing a musical album, tagged ‘Tsangayar Kura’, whose circulation was banned by the board recently.
The two artistes were arraigned before a 'mobile court' in Kano yesterday. They pleaded not guilty to the charge and were denied bail.
The case comes up on Monday for hearing as the singers remain remanded in prison custody.
The relationship between Hausa filmmakers and the board under the leadership of Malam Abubakar Rabo Abdulkareem deteriorated in recent times. It will be recalled that a few weeks ago, the board arrested another singer, Aminudden Ladan Abubakar (ALA), in connection with the release of another unvetted song, “Hasbunallahu”.
